apoB: one apoB per atherogenic particle, so it is a count. more informative when triglycerides are high
practical version: get both if you can. if you can only get one and your trigs are over about 2 mmol/L, apoB tells you more
non-HDL-C is the free compromise. it is already on every lipid panel and nobody looks at it
and the counterpoint stands. the outcome trials and the guidelines are built on LDL-C, so that is what your doctor will treat
