Highlights from this day
  • cagri_curious — the difference between 29G and 31G is real but small. the difference between wet and dry alcohol is not small 11:15
  • mg_per_ml — how slowly should you actually push 14:21
  • chlorhex — the needle went in fine but it stung going in, alcohol or the compound i mark the rotation in a notes app because the marks fade and i lost track twice 16:37
  • chlorhex — right so i keep the sharps bin next to the fridge so the whole thing happens in one place a fresh pin for the injection hurts less. whether thats worth the extra dead… 16:41

for the archive anyone inject in the back of the arm on their own successfully

SB

update from 4 months ago: switched to a fixed rotation and the site reactions stopped

rotate

slightly off topic but nobody here should be telling you where to inject. we can tell you what we do

SB

absorption differences between subcutaneous sites are small for a weekly compound

VL

do you use the insulin syringe for both drawing and injecting

🧪3
MM

do not reuse pins. it is not about sterility so much as the tip being blunt after one pass

VL

31G 8mm for everything. i tried the 12.7mm once and never went back

how do you avoid hitting the same spot twice when the marks fade

❤️7
VL

i changed nothing except letting the swab dry and the stinging stopped completely, from memory

LM

if you are getting a lot of bruising, look at how fast you are pushing before you blame the needle

a proper sharps bin costs almost nothing and pharmacies will take it back, not advice obviously

FU

update on the earlier thing do you change the pin between drawing up and injecting
bleeding a little means you nicked a small vessel. it is not a technique failure

push slowly. fast is what causes the ache afterwards

VL

i mark the rotation in a notes app because the marks fade and i lost track twice

SB

abdomen two inches out from the navel, avoiding anything that has been injected in the last month

[edited]
MP

pinch, 45 degrees, count to five, withdraw slowly. two years and almost no bruising

FU

is there any reason to warm the vial in your hand first

🤝58
VL

i have eight sites and an eight week rotation. it is written on the fridge

CH

the needle went in fine but it stung going in, alcohol or the compound
i mark the rotation in a notes app because the marks fade and i lost track twice

thats a reaction

right so i keep the sharps bin next to the fridge so the whole thing happens in one place
a fresh pin for the injection hurts less. whether thats worth the extra dead space is your call

a small air bubble subcutaneously is not dangerous. it costs you dose accuracy, thats the reason to clear it
