certificate said 98.1 and the independent came back 97.4, is that a problem

coming back to this my vial assayed under label but the purity was fine, which matters more

a single sample tells you about a single vial. that is genuinely all it tells you

so this is awkward. same lot, two of us tested, 99.1% and 96.8%

good. this is the useful kind of disagreement. list the differences before anyone theorises

mine: sealed vial, sent February, Janoshik, arrived in four days

mine: decanted, sent April, different lab, arrived in nine, vial had been in a fridge that got opened forty times a day

there are four independent differences there and any one of them could carry two points

so the honest answer is the two results are not comparable, and the disagreement is not evidence about the lot

that feels like a cop-out

it is the opposite of a cop-out. claiming to know which one is right when four variables differ would be the cop-out

if you wanted to actually test this you would split one vial, send halves to two labs on the same day, in the same packaging

which is what the pooled rounds in #lab-requests are supposed to do and we keep not doing it properly

we did it once in 2025 and the answer was 1.3 points apart, which was the least dramatic outcome available

and completely consistent with what you would expect from method differences alone

so if my number is 99.1 and yours is 96.8 the lot is somewhere around 98 and change and neither of us should quote our own figure as the truth

that is a very good reading of it

does the vendor get to use the higher one in their marketing

they always do

Hubei Jianxiang did that with one of mine, quoted the number without the context. i asked them to add the lot and date and they did, which surprised me

the Sangon lot is the one i actually care about. do we call this resolved

we call it unresolved and low-concern. no result under 96, two results, poor comparability
