#reconstitution 2026-03-27

Friday49 messages10 participantstimes are UTC
Highlights from this day
  • c18_column — is the meniscus reading actually a real source of error or am i overthinking 17:09
  • c18_column — 15mg in 3ml is 5mg/ml. same numbers as 10 in 2, just more of it 17:17
  • maintenance_mo — how long after reconstituting before its actually dissolved 17:50
  • u100_pat — if the maths gives you 13.7 units, change the volume. do not try to hit 13.7 21:15
  • split_dose_sam — 30mg in 3ml is 10mg/ml, so 5mg is 50 units. half the barrel, feels like a lot but its right, take that with a pinch of salt 21:22

the vacuum will pull it in. let it. fighting it is how you get a face full of aerosol

read it at eye level

MC

ok so swirl it. do not shake it. the foam is denatured protein and you are not getting it back

how long after reconstituting before its actually dissolved

MM

i was wrong about this last year: it is fine to draw cold, it just stings more going in, ymmv

MC

it should be completely clear with no floaters. cloudy means stop

dead space in a standard insulin syringe hub is small but it is not nothing over a month

follow up one unit is 0.01ml. 100 units is 1ml. everything else in this channel follows from that, thats just me

MM

my vial pulled the water in on its own, is that the vacuum or did i do something

is a slightly cloudy solution ever ok or is that always a bin it

IS

benzyl alcohol is what makes it bacteriostatic. it is about 0.9% typically, your mileage will differ

one unit is 0.01ml

weighing the vial before you reconstitute is the only way to catch an underfill

IS

do not add more bac water to an already reconstituted vial, you have lost track of the concentration

my 10mg vial weighed 11.4g on the jewellery scale, is that wrong

*that should say weekly

TF

anyone got a photo of what a properly dissolved vial looks like

SB

temperature of the diluent does not matter. how fast you push it in does

TF

i swirl for about thirty seconds and then leave it. never had one fail to dissolve

SB

i use bac water even for a single-use vial because it stings less, which is not the reason it exists

SB

bacteriostatic water for anything multi-use. sterile water has no preservative in it at all, i could be wrong

U1

if the maths gives you 13.7 units, change the volume. do not try to hit 13.7

i write the mg/ml on the vial with a sharpie the moment i reconstitute it, your mileage will differ

SD

30mg in 3ml is 10mg/ml, so 5mg is 50 units. half the barrel, feels like a lot but its right, take that with a pinch of salt
