30mg in 3ml is 10mg/ml, so 5mg is 50 units. half the barrel, feels like a lot but its right
#reconstitution 2026-04-04
- sulphur_burp — 10mg in 2ml is 5mg/ml. so 0.5mg is 0.1ml which is 10 units on a u100 19:12
- sulphur_burp — ok so my vial pulled the water in on its own, is that the vacuum or did i do something 19:19
- mg_per_ml — nobody here should be telling you a dose. we can check your arithmetic, thats a different thing 20:33
- taper_tess — while im here the powder is stuck to the stopper, do i care 21:08
a 3ml syringe for the diluent and a u100 for the dose is the setup most people here end up with
how long after reconstituting before its actually dissolved
write the date on
do you let it come to room temp before drawing or draw it cold
the jewellery scale is a good habit but calibrate it, they drift badly
i keep a spare vial of bac water in the fridge purely so i never rush the maths
took me a year to stop over-diluting. the measurement error at 4 units is worse than the convenience, happy to be corrected
*VendorInvestigate not the other one
one unit is 0.01ml. 100 units is 1ml. everything else in this channel follows from that
if the maths gives you 13.7 units, change the volume. do not try to hit 13.7
pick the volume so your dose is a whole number of units. thats the entire trick
my 10mg vial weighed 11.4g on the jewellery scale, is that wrong
update on the earlier thing you can absolutely just always use 2ml, and honestly most of us should
give it 9 minutes at room temperature before you decide it has not dissolved, i think
10mg in 2ml is 5mg/ml. so 0.5mg is 0.1ml which is 10 units on a u100
if i add 0.5ml to a 40mg vial what concentration am i actually at
does benzyl alcohol matter if im finishing the vial in one go
ok so my vial pulled the water in on its own, is that the vacuum or did i do something
the jewellery scale is a good habit but calibrate it, they drift badly
the meniscus thing is real. read it at eye level or you are guessing by a unit either way
label the date too. you will not remember which vial is which by week 9
does temperature of the bac water matter at all
right so anyone got a photo of what a properly dissolved vial looks like
temperature of the diluent does not matter. how fast you push it in does
genuine question a slightly collapsed cake is cosmetic. a puddle in the bottom is not
bacteriostatic water for anything multi-use. sterile water has no preservative in it at all, not advice obviously
quick one swirl it. do not shake it. the foam is denatured protein and you are not getting it back, i have it written down somewhere
do i swirl for a specific length of time or just until its clear
Assay note: SGN lot A-2418 reported at 99.2% of label content.
weigh it first
right so is it worth buying a 3ml syringe for the diluent or is the insulin one fine
is a slightly cloudy solution ever ok or is that always a bin it
dead space
i have never once regretted using a rounder number and a slightly bigger volume
if you draw up with a bigger pin and inject with a fresh one you lose a bit more to dead space, someone check my working
for the archive i swirl for about thirty seconds and then leave it. never had one fail to dissolve
it should be completely clear with no floaters. cloudy means stop
coming back after 7 months, has the pinned recon volume advice changed
follow up 5mg in 2ml gives 2.5mg/ml, 0.25mg is 10 units. good for a starting dose
nobody here should be telling you a dose. we can check your arithmetic, thats a different thing
thats 5mg/ml
if the powder is on the stopper, tap it down before you add anything. it will still dissolve either way
right so dead space in a standard insulin syringe hub is small but it is not nothing over a month
[edited]sanity check my maths before i pin myself with something stupid
10mg in 1ml is 10mg/ml, so 2.5mg is 25 units. thats the one i use
the last few units are a real loss. i accept it rather than tilting the vial and drawing air
while im here the powder is stuck to the stopper, do i care
my rule is one concentration for everything so i never have to think about it at 7am
does it matter if i inject the bac water straight at the powder
*VendorInvestigate not the other one
how much do i lose to dead space with a 30G pin
clear or bin it
nope, redo it
update on the earlier thing is it normal for the cake to look slightly collapsed on one side
read it at eye level
the vacuum will pull it in. let it. fighting it is how you get a face full of aerosol
aim the diluent at the glass wall, not at the powder. it goes in gentler
thats the vacuum
i use bac water even for a single-use vial because it stings less, which is not the reason it exists
swirl dont shake
Recon calculator: 2mg in 5ml = 2.5mg/ml.
what do you do with the last 8 units when you cant draw them cleanly
coming back to this update from 17 months ago: switched to a single concentration and have not miscalculated since
genuine question do not add more bac water to an already reconstituted vial, you have lost track of the concentration
one unit is 0.01ml
15mg in 3ml is 5mg/ml. same numbers as 10 in 2, just more of it
is the meniscus reading actually a real source of error or am i overthinking
quick one anyone else find the 10mg vials harder to get fully dissolved than the small ones
