Highlights from this day
  • rotterdam_recon — while im here lyophilised at room temp for 9 days in transit, worried or not 19:53
  • VialBot — Testing queue: 9 submissions open, 48 awaiting dispatch. 19:55
  • rotterdam_recon — lyophilised powder is genuinely robust. a warm transit is far less likely to matter than people fear, ask me again in a month 20:22
  • hot_mailbox — anyone tested a vial before and after a bad transit 20:26
  • verify_or_dont — two to eight degrees. most domestic fridge doors are not in that range and people do not check 21:05

i have never had a lyophilised vial fail after a warm transit and i have had some bad ones

CO

hotel minibars are frequently not cold enough. i take a thermometer, which is ridiculous and also correct

VI

follow up my fridge is running at 6.2, is that out of range
i left a reconstituted vial out overnight once, sent it for testing out of curiosity, it came back fine

nobody here can tell you a vial is safe. we can tell you what has and has not survived for us

coming back to this a liquid cold pack tells you it was above freezing, not that your vial cooked

i log the fridge temperature daily and the room has never let me forget it

update from 24 months ago: replaced the fridge, temperature is stable, no more anxiety

quick one do you keep the unopened vials and the in-use one in the same place

anyone tested a vial before and after a bad transit

VO

ok so i freeze aliquots and have had them test fine afterwards. others here would not do it and i understand why

HM

buy a thermometer. mine reads 6.2 on the door and two degrees lower at the back, n of 1 obviously

power cut with the door shut for a few hours is fine. a full fridge holds temperature surprisingly well

VO

two to eight degrees. most domestic fridge doors are not in that range and people do not check

👀1👍7⚠️1

does anyone freeze reconstituted vials or is that madness

quick one the vial that visibly changed after a warm transit was the one that had already been reconstituted

VO

right so freeze thaw cycling is the risk, not one freeze. that is my read of it anyway
