Highlights from this day
  • eat_more_please — coming back after 25 months, has the pinned recon volume advice changed 19:48
  • deamidation — i have never once regretted using a rounder number and a slightly bigger volume 20:25
  • deamidation — do you let it come to room temp before drawing or draw it cold 20:52
EM

weighing the vial before you reconstitute is the only way to catch an underfill, thats one data point

i write the mg/ml on the vial with a sharpie the moment i reconstitute it, not advice obviously
took me a year to stop over-diluting. the measurement error at 4 units is worse than the convenience

EM

one unit is 0.01ml. 100 units is 1ml. everything else in this channel follows from that

dead space

EM

the last few units are a real loss. i accept it rather than tilting the vial and drawing air

lyophilised powder is far more robust than people think. it is the solution that is fragile

AD

dead space in a standard insulin syringe hub is small but it is not nothing over a month

LL

while im here label the date too. you will not remember which vial is which by week 28, i have it written down somewhere

LL

slightly off topic but the powder is stuck to the stopper, do i care

slightly off topic but it foamed. is it ruined

LL

if the maths gives you 13.7 units, change the volume. do not try to hit 13.7

LL

nobody here should be telling you a dose. we can check your arithmetic, thats a different thing

how do you all measure a half unit, or do you just not

round numbers

[edited]

weigh it first

unrelated but why does everyone say 2ml specifically and not 1ml

is it normal for the cake to look slightly collapsed on one side

bacteriostatic water for anything multi-use. sterile water has no preservative in it at all, happy to be corrected

how long after reconstituting before its actually dissolved

VV

can i add more bac water later to a vial ive already reconstituted

DE

i have never once regretted using a rounder number and a slightly bigger volume

DE

what do you do with the last 20 units when you cant draw them cleanly

DE

update on the earlier thing 30mg in 3ml is 10mg/ml, so 5mg is 50 units. half the barrel, feels like a lot but its right

bac water

TE

while im here is it worth buying a 3ml syringe for the diluent or is the insulin one fine

anyone worked out a recon volume that puts 2.5mg on a round unit mark

MP

anyone got a photo of what a properly dissolved vial looks like

MP

took me a year to stop over-diluting. the measurement error at 4 units is worse than the convenience

do i swirl for a specific length of time or just until its clear
