the archive gets cited back at us
A member arrived quoting a 2024 conversation from this archive as an authority, which the archivists found flattering for about ten minutes and then alarming. The fortnight turned into a genuinely good discussion about what a chat log is evidence of. It is evidence of what people said. It is not evidence that they were right, and several 2024 conversations were wrong.

What happened
- The cited conversation was one the room later corrected, and the correction was two months further down the same channel.
- The archivists added a note about reading logs in order rather than treating any single day as a conclusion.
- Nothing is deleted here, including the room own mistakes, which is the whole reason a bad 2024 answer is still findable.
- A member proposed annotating outdated conversations and the archivists declined, on the grounds that editing the past is how records stop being records.
- tarpit_tam pointed out that the most-linked day in the archive is still the purity-and-assay argument from April 2024.
