a third lab joins the argument and does not settle it

Having found a gap between two labs, the room did the obvious thing and sent material to a third. This did not resolve anything and was never going to, but it did produce the most sober fortnight the analytics channels have had. Three numbers from three labs is not a contradiction. It is a distribution, and the room started treating it as one.

What happened

  • PeptideMeter returned a figure that sat between the two earlier results, which pleased nobody and clarified everything.
  • The channel settled on reporting a range with the method attached rather than a single headline percentage.
  • Homopeptide was added to the sampling list for a future pool on the strength of the room having strong opinions and no data about it.
  • A member argued that hobby testing is worthless given this spread and was answered carefully rather than dismissed.
  • The counterargument that stuck is that a nine point spread still cannot hide a vial at seventy percent of label.
