the first verification grant, and a long argument about what it means

The log got its first entry on the positive side of the ledger and immediately caused a problem, because half the room read a grant as a recommendation. It is not one, and the mods spent the fortnight saying so. What a grant means is narrow and boring: specific lots, tested independently, matched their labels. Nothing more is claimed and nothing more should be inferred.

What happened

  • ChinaPeptides (QYAOBIO) was the first entry, on two independently tested lots bought by members rather than samples supplied by anybody.
  • The mods restated that a grant covers the lots tested and the period tested, and that it expires rather than accumulating goodwill.
  • One good test does not clear a supplier, which is the half of the pinned sentence that gets ignored most often.
  • A member asked whether verification could be extended on the strength of a supplier COA and was told no in four different ways.
  • marrow.mod moved three sourcing requests out of the compound channels and left a note explaining why the boundary exists.
